So obviously this is a 5/5 ⭐ for me.
Brittainy C. Cherry is an amazing author, the first book I read of hers was “The Air He Breathes” and that is my second favorite book of all time. Her writing is SO quotable. I have a 2 page word doc. of quotes from this book and 11 pages for “The Air He Breathes”. Her books slam your feels and there’s no escaping.
ON TO THE REVIEW…
Blurb- Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday’s hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow’s promises. A girl named Maggie had many moments in her lifetime, moments that changed her, challenged her. Moments that scared her and engulfed her. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him. (Brooks) She was ten years old when she lost her voice. A piece of her was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear her silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during her dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories. This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises. Of moments.
I lived, I cried, I screamed, and I died.
In the beginning Maggie (10 yrs old) was *head over sandals* for Brooks (her step-brothers best friend). She told him day after day, she was going to marry him.
He thought she was gross and ugly and annoying (typical ten year old boy right?) On the day before their “wedding” they were supposed to meet in the woods for their “rehearsal dinner”.
(The quotation marks because they’re ten letsbehonest its not real.)
Brooks was late, so Maggie went looking for him, a little girl all alone, in the woods. All is well until she sees something that breaks her for years to come.
When Brooks finds Maggie, she goes home, stops talking and never leaves. For the next 20 years she doesn’t leave her house, she doesn’t speak a single word. Every time she tries to leave, panic takes over. So she’s learned to live life between the walls of her home. Almost every day Brooks visits her, asks her the same question “You okay today, Magnet?” (not going further cause spoilers)
I love ALL THE CHARACTERS except James *eyeroll* (you’ll figure out why when you read it, he’s extremely aggravating) and honestly most of the book Cheryl (Maggies step-sister) is a (b****) really mean person who I hated a lot- but near the end I bless her, she turns into a really sweet, loving sister. Also, her stepmom gets kind of ignorant at some parts which was just irritating.
Their love is the most beautifully written I’ve ever read. Cauldron boil me.
I seriously read this whole thing in 6 hours, while out on the lake. I was so engulfed in it, I got massively sunburned and there’s a rectangle on my thigh from where my book sat the whole time. 😂 This is what happens when I read your books Brittainy. I thank God for your happy endings, no matter the rocks in the road (aka. Boulders) , you always find room for a good ending to mend our mangled souls. (I wore sunglasses to hide all tears)
I will forever recommend this book to anyone and everyone!!! While the first one got hot and steamy, this one stayed on the safe side of things. Love.Love.Love.
I picked my top 6 favorites because two pages is way too many… (below)
1. “It is morning,” I groaned and walked over to see their windows, pulling back the drapes. “See?” The sun is out.” “The sun is a liar, that’s why god created curtains.”
2. A person never reads an outstanding book twice and walks away with the same beliefs
An outstanding book always surprises you and awakens you to new ideas, new ways of looking at the world, no matter how many times the words have been read.
3. I want to fight for those who don’t a voice, but are screaming to be heard.
4. That night I realized a few things about life. Sometimes the rain was more pleasing than the sun. Sometimes the hurt was more fulfilling than the healing. And sometimes the pieces of a puzzle were more beautiful when scattered apart.
5. The world keeps spinning because your heartbeats exist.
6. The strength you find to keep going on. Even on the mornings when you think you won’t make it, by nightfall you realize that you could.
